I want to play

RETO, the app for playing sport in Costa Rica

RETO shows which matches need players, which groups play regularly and where the venues are. The rest is saying “Voy” — I'm going.

Inside the app

What you do in the RETO app

Three situations from any ordinary week, and what the app settles in each one.

  1. Nobody to play with

Join a match or a group that already plays

You don't need to know anyone. The app lists matches that are short of players, challenges from groups looking for an opponent, and open groups where people already play regularly. You ask for a place and the organizer decides.

  2. Organizing falls to me

Set the match up once. Everyone answers for themselves.

You start with what you already know — sport, venue, date or cost — and RETO keeps it as a draft until you invite someone. You invite the whole group or anyone you choose. Short of players or an opponent? You post it: the requests come in and you decide.

  3. Where do we play?

Find the venue on a map or a list

In the app you search by name, sport, province and canton, and from each venue's page you contact it or get directions. You book directly with the venue.

Situation 1 of 3

Nothing to install

Anyone without the app still plays

The organizer sends you your link on WhatsApp. You open it in the browser and answer. No account, no password, nothing to install.

  1. Your link arrives. Every invited person has their own, and it works only for that match.
  2. You see what's being played, where and when. The page doesn't show who else is going: that is visible in the app, to the people in the group.
  3. You tap “I'm going” or “I can't make it”. Your answer stays with the match. If you later sign in to RETO with an account, that same link ties it to what you already answered.

Costa Rica's venue map comes with the app

The venues on the map are the ones in RETO's directory, which is public and readable with nothing to install: venues across the country, with what people ask before they go. Does it have lights? Is it roofed? Is there parking?

Short answers

Questions about the RETO app

RETO is an app and a venue directory built in Costa Rica: it connects players, groups, matches and places to play, so you can find where, when and who to play with. It is a product of Mintive Studio.

Leave your name, mobile number and email on the waitlist and we'll reach you on WhatsApp and by email the moment RETO opens in your area. The app is for iPhone and Android.

Nothing. RETO doesn't charge players to use the app. If a match has a venue cost, the app keeps track of each person's share, but RETO doesn't collect or move that money.

Football, padel, tennis and running. Football — the pickup game Costa Ricans call a mejenga — is played 5-, 6-, 7-, 8-, 9- or 11-a-side, and padel is played in doubles.

No. In RETO you choose the venue where the match is played; you book directly with the venue. Its page has how to contact it and how to get there.

No. Your phone number is never published: it doesn't appear on your profile or on any other public RETO page. The details are in the privacy policy.
